A PLEASANT PLACE
Janneke van den Tillaart studies Land and Water Management at VHL University of Applied Sciences. ‘Beforehand I had a certain image of this study: that it would be quite broad, with many different aspects of water and landscapes and a lot of exact knowledge and skills. As it turns out, this is almost exactly the way it is.’
A study that can lead you in many directions
‘Beforehand I had a certain image of this study: that it would be quite broad, with many different aspects of water and landscapes and a lot of exact knowledge and skills. A study that can lead you in many directions and where you decide what your direction will be as you go along. I’m in the second year now and it turns out that this is almost exactly the way it is. Furthermore, VHL came across as a pleasant place, and that turned out to be true as well. It’s a nice, small school, where you get to know a lot of students personally and the teachers are in touch with the students.’
‘After the broad basis, where I got acquainted with many aspects of the field, I chose the specialization Sustainable Regional Development. This is not only about water but also about landscape design, and I love it! In a few days I have an interview at a water board. Hopefully I can do my work placement there. I want to see how they purify water and describe the processes. How does it work and how can I help to improve it?
Gather more knowledge
I’m not sure yet about what I want to do after graduation. We still have a lot of themes and projects coming, through which I’ll get acquainted with even more aspects of the field, gather knowledge and learn skills ranging from climate knowledge to Photoshop.
