Sustainable Landscape Management

The position of environmental management has changed. While steady progress was made during the latter part of the last century on the completion of Nature Network Netherlands (previously EHS, or National Ecological Network), environmental managers now, more than ever before, need to show the added social value of nature. This means that they also focus on the value of nature for health, recreation, water supply, heat control in the city and so on.

Foresters, managers and policy makers therefore look for creative solutions to social issues that enhance the natural value at the same time. This makes it necessary to develop new competencies in managers and students, different types of research (often more integrated), new forms of cooperation and new working methods. The professorship Sustainable Landscape Management aims to play a stimulating role in these innovations.
