Application procedure for Bachelor, AD, Certificate and Master students

*We strongly advise Bachelor students to apply before the 1st of May with regard to the study choice check. You can still apply between May 1st and August 1st, but then there’s a chance that you’ll not be admitted.

Application in Studielink 

If you wish to apply for a study programme, you first have to apply through Studielink (at, the online application system for higher education in the Netherlands.

Once you have created a Studielink account, please choose the programme you are interested in and indicate the year you want to commence your studies in.

After you have finished your application in Studielink, please send the following documents to:

  • a colour copy of official diplomas or certificates of all previous education 
    (secondary and university level and other relevant courses)*
  • copies of the corresponding lists of marks - transcripts of records*
  • a CV / resume
  • an internationally recognised certificate of proficiency in the English language (e.g. IELTS, TOEFL or Cambridge FCE) **
  • a letter of motivation for attending the course (does not apply to applicants for Bachelor programmes)
  • colour copy of ID or passport

*certification and translation of documents is required when documents are not written in one of the following languages: Dutch, English, French, Spanish or German.
** the Van Hall Larenstein University institutional TOEFL code is: 4478. 
**native speakers and applicants with a German secondary school diploma with English in their final year do not have to provide a proof of English skills.

Students already living and/or studying in the Netherlands should also add the following:

  • a copy of a valid residence permit (front and back)
  • proof of current health insurance


Conditionally admitted

Once a complete application (including all necessary documents) has been received, the Van Hall Larenstein University admittance committee will assess your eligibility. The admittance committee will decide whether:

  • You are not eligible to enter the study programme: the university will send you a letter to inform you about this and the reasons why you could not be admitted.
  • You are conditionally admitted.

In case of a positive assessment of your application, you will receive an official Letter of Conditional Admittance and/or email, confirming that you either fulfil all the requirements or you still have to fulfil certain conditions, and have been conditionally admitted.

Final admittance

The next step for you is to transfer the tuition fee. Your admittance becomes final when Van Hall Larenstein University has received the tuition fee from you, your sponsor or your scholarship provider, and you have fulfilled any remaining admittance conditions. The details of the university's bank account are stated in the Letter of Conditional Admittance you received. Please make sure you transfer the tuition fee before 30 August 2018.

Upon receipt of the payment, your admission becomes final and we will send you a definite Letter of Admittance to confirm this.

After you have been fully admitted, you can start making arrangements to travel to the Netherlands and Van Hall Larenstein University. Please notify your contact person about your travel arrangements and your date of arrival at the university.

You will receive an e-mail from the university with a link to a webpage where you find all practical information that you need (information about your schedule, book list, facilities etc.).
