Studying abroad is an excellent opportunity to improve your academic knowledge, learn a new language and immerse yourself in a new culture. On this page, you can find information for incoming Erasmus+ students, exchange students and students who want to pursue an internship at VHL University of Applied Sciences (VHL).
VHL offers several English-taught minor programmes for exchange students at both the Leeuwarden and Velp campuses. A minor is a cohesive set of courses taught in one semester; it consists of 30 ECTS. All minors take place during the bachelor programme/first cycle. A B2 level of proficiency is required in the English language; each minor programme may set their own prerequisites. If you wish to follow a Dutch-taught minor programme, please contact the Mobility Team at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Erasmus+ Programme (European Region Action Scheme for the Mobility of University Students) is a European Union student exchange programme which provides students with opportunities to study or gain work experience in another European country. View the Erasmus+ Charter for Higher Education 2021-2027 (ECHE) for more information.
VHL has Erasmus+ partner agreements with over 70 different universities and universities of applied science. Consult this list to see if your home university (of applied sciences) is one of them. Please note that Erasmus+ students are expected to choose a study programme in the subject area covered by the Inter-Institutional Agreement. If you wish to study at VHL, ask your International Office to formally nominate you at VHL. Our nomination deadlines are May 14 for the Fall semester and October 31 for the Spring semester. When your nomination has been approved, you will receive detailed information on the further application process.
If your university (of applied sciences) has no pre-existing agreement with VHL and you still wish to attend, you are welcome to apply as a Free Mover. You will have access to the same education and facilities as the regular students, but keep in mind that you will need to pay tuition fees. Please contact the Mobility Team for detailed information on the required fees and the application process for Free Movers. The deadlines for applying to our programmes are May 14 for the Fall semester and October 31 for the Spring semester.
Should you wish to pursue an internship at VHL, contact the Mobility Team through email@example.com. Indicate what project or research group you would like to participate in and include an extensive CV, motivation letter, transcript of records as well as a proposed timeline for your internship. We will forward your request accordingly.
